To create your own Template, please note that there are 3 templates involved:
1.CSS file (important for Word and HTML reports)
2.HTML template (important for Word and HTML reports)
3.Word template (important for Word reports)
Each template controls a different part of the layout. All 3 templates govern the look of the generated HTML and Word report as follows:
1.CSS file : Controls color and font size of text, layout of tables and table margins and borders. Please see CSS Styles for HTML and Word Reports
2.HTML template: Defines the page titles and table of contents.
3.Word template: Defines the front page, the page header and trailer text and logos.
4.Please see Word Styles for Word Reports
5.Please see Word Page Size and Margins
6.To understand Word Templates, please see Universal and Specific Word Templates
How to create your own Word Template
The following steps are a high-level overview, please refer to the linked chapters for more details.
1.Test first to choose a CSS, HTML and a Word Stock Template (universal or specific) that you want to modify to create your own template. Consider the base template for A4 and Letter. Under no circumstances should you start from scratch to create your template. Always start from a copy. Please refer to How to specify which Templates are used.
2.These templates should be modified gradually to suit your needs.
3.Copy the Word Stock Template (universal or specific, please see Universal and Specific Word Templates ) to your own file name with the ending '.doc'. Do not use the '.docx' format. Please note that this will also copy the included VBA macros that you can inspect with the VBA Editor in Microsoft Word. In general, there is no need to change the included VBA macros to create your own template.
4.Open your new template in Word and perform these steps:
5.Modify the front page making sure to leave the tags #TITLE1#,#TITLE2#, #REPORTFOR#, #DATE#, #COMMENT#.
6.Modify the page headers and footers, leaving the tags #TITLE1#,#TITLE2# in the header to have it be replaced with the report settings for server and report type.
7.Modify and define the Word Styles for Word Reports
8.Save your Word template and copy it into the /universal/ folder or into the specific server type folder into the subfolder A4 or Letter.
9.Test your new template in the Report Tool Setting tabs, click on 'Template Settings & Preview' and then by pressing the button Generate Test Report. See How to specify which Templates are used.
10.Test your new template with a real server configuration or phone inventory report.
